Actually when one uses a good quality microphone such as a a k g 414 or, a senhiser the quality is almost broadcast level. I haven't run a frequency responce test on the recorder but I will and get back to you. Maybe you have and I for one would like to here the results.

The olympus only records in wma format, and even when set to the highest recording quality, it only yields mediocre sounding recordings. I too rest my case. You get what you pay for.

I bought an Olympus one gig recorder/player. It plays windows media
files, audible files, and comes with stereo mikes. Besides that, all
functions are spoken in a clear voice. Cost, 260$, a bargain I think.
   I rest my case.
