While I agree there could be legal issues around any distribution, I don't believe such a thing was ever suggested.

Regarding your suggestion that one would have to listen to the NLS tape in real time in order to convert it, that is not true. Some of us have long known you play it at 1|7/8-ips to make the recording, then half the bit rate in order to slow it down for playing purposes. Thus you spend approximately 45 minutes recording a 90-minute side. This might all prove to be more time consuming than some want to put into it. But if they have the time to do that and the free space on a card for the material which makes the material easier to cart around than cassettes and reduces the likelihood of tape malfunction at a bad time, why not do it? The essential components of the process is the same regardless of the software used to achieve the ends.
