Are you saying, every time you get a new flash card you should format the
card before using it?

If you have a 2 gig card, then when you format it with the Book Port, it should format to FAT 16, not 32. So, if it formatted at 16, then the Book Port did it correctly. Only the 4 gig cards are formatted at FAT 32. We have seen some brands that don't format correctly and are currently working on that bug.
The manual will be placed back on the card, once you connect to the PC with that card.
