Miriam, Yes, that is what happened and I confused what they each said too. My
word 'attack' on the Christmas wreath (by now I'll guess that was Bob) didn't
mean I felt anyone was attacking me, but that when someone is decrying any
religion they seem to pick on an insignificant detail that has nothing to do
with the heart of the spiritual system, to make their point. I want to bring
the discussion to the most inner core values of religion and strip away all
surrounding customs or varieties.

Carl, Why don't you deal with me instead defending why you won't engage in
futility. I never once said I am right and all others are wrong. I never said
what I spiritually believed. I did say we are all in the same boat. I did say
you are in error if all you understand about a spiritual system is that an
invisible guy in the sky created you. You can't reject what you don't
understand. And I would further pose that you do have a spiritual system, even
if it is to deny a god. And your certainty about that is as uncertain as
anyone's on earth. We are in the same boat. And we are all, in a deep way, as
correct as we can be. And as incorrect. The only one I see in attack mode is
you......and you attack the insignificant evergreen tree. You might also look
into symbolism and how it aids the fallible human mind to try to grasp mystery.

There is nothing so futile as an exercise in futility.
And once again we prove it. There are two hard and true facts in any
discussion of this nature. 1. I am right!
2. Everyone else is wrong!
Each of us, regardless of our basic Beliefs, become a Missionary,
setting out to demonstrate the "rightnous" of our Belief, and the
"wrongness" of everyone else. Sometimes we are gentle in our attack
on everyone else, and sometimes we become rather nasty. But always it
is from the position of each of us being Right, and everyone else,
Wrong!
And when we are not defending our Belief, by attacking all others, we
are wondering why people can't seem to get along.
Now I'm not a Believer any longer. My reason for leaving the Faith
was due to this very demonstration. I awoke from a deep dream one
morning and asked myself, "Self! What sort of Almighty Creator would
allow Humans to gather in little self righteous groups and spend
thousands of years fighting each other?
But that's me, and I came to my present place in thought in my own way
and in my own time. To my simple mind, that is the only way each of
us will resolve this discussion. And then it will not matter what
others believe, just so long as they do not believe that they are
obligated to kill me if I do not believe as they do.
