Hi all,

Folks, the operative words here *should* be what is consistent for the DAISY converter! You *must* put chapters in larger headings font in order for the DAISY converter to know that this is a heading, a DAISY element! Madeleine's mention of putting chapter titles into 14 point font is really confusing. they must be in 16 point or they will not be recognized as a DAISY element.

I think this whole issue of the stars is getting everyone all out of kilter! It all started when we were talking about chapter titles that had just single numbers instead of having "chapter" with them. Then, it's morphed into this whole crazy malarkiface about blank lines. The blank lines are immaterial! You don't necessarily need them between chapter titles and the accompanying text, but what you do need, what you have to have, in fact, is the chapter titles in larger font! This is a prerequisite for making a book into DAISY format. Please, let's not have any confusion about chapter heading fonts!

Believe me folks, I've made DAISY books in the past, and these font changes *must* be made in order for the DAISY converter to select the text that indicates a new or different DAISY element!

In posting a response to Madeleine's explanation, along with my
question about do I understand then that if the chapter title is 16
point Bold and the text is 12 point regular, asterisks aren't
necessary, I forgot to ask what do members prefer? Given that the
space is deleted and the texts are squished together--asterisks or
nothing between chapter title and beginning of body. (Since in this
book I've begun with the asterisks, I 'll c ontinue, but I want to know
for he future. smile
