Hi all,

Hey, E., here's a suggestion. I haven['t read the volunteer manual recently, but how about if there would be a paragraph or two in there about synopses? In there one might write something like.

It is recommended that books be submitted with a synopsis. A synopsis is a short paragraph which tells what the book is about and gives some information about the story or the contents of that book. It doesn't contain any words which would give value to the book, good or bad. All a synopsis should contain is information.

Please do not use reviews from the book jacket which have obviously been written by others, as this is a clear violation of the copyright laws.

How's that? In this way, we keep the terminology which is correct for what is being done, and we also explain what it is and why. If I get any time today or tomorrow, ha, ha, ha, I'll take a look at the manual and see what's there, and maybe I can make some suggested changes.

I was actually making a plea in all this, not so much that we keep the terminology, though this is important, but that volunteers take responsibility for learning about their job and thereby doing it competently. I'm a firm believer in independence, responsibility and in interdependence. Had a headmaster at one point in my life who talked a great deal about freedom and that freedom, by its very nature implies responsibility. I guess it must have stuck pretty hard, good glue or something. <smiling>
