Ann you can either ask people to write summaries of a book's plot or yell at them for not looking up words.

I prefer to be understood.

Though I scored extremely high grades on the verbal part of the SAT tests I know some people use smaller shorter less complex words.

Not everyone is as fluent as you. Everyone has their own skills.

Asking for something in a way which people understand probably means you get it more often.

Hi all,

G. Cindy, as somebody mentioned here recently, if some people think that we are ignorant or incapable of learning or something like that, it occurs to him/her to dumb down the language of instructions, use incorrect terminology for things and so on. Frankly, if somebody doesn't know what a synopsis is, then it is his or her responsibility to look up the word, ask someone to explain it or otherwise be proactive in what they do. If somebody can't take five minutes to either ask somebody what a word means or to go to the local copy of the dictionary, they shouldn't be volunteering here. If you work somewhere, it is *your* responsibility to understand terminology and what is expected of workers. I repeat, it is the worker's responsibility, nobody else's. If we start dumbing down the language of what we want, we will get just that, dumb people! No, bring people up, not down! Empower, not hand feed, encourage not cosset, mentor not dictate or demean!

Sorry, G. Cindy, but you should never apologize for calling to our notice something like this. If people are mistakenly using reviews as synopsis, they need to be called on it.

Just my $.02 for a friday afternoon. I'm probably going to get all kinds of flames because I insist that people take responsibility for their own actions and their own learning curve! So, to all them's don't know what a synopsis is, look it up, ask somebody. You won't shrivel up or turn into a pixy.
