One note about page breaks: They *must* be in the file for Bookshare to
accept it, so if the book you validate has none and it's either too big a
job to add them or, based on the text, you can't determine where they should
be, unfortunately, the book must be rejected. I can understand the reasoning
behind this, but if a book's only problem is the lack of page breaks and
it's otherwise an excellent book, it is a shame, but the page breaks are
required for correct DAISY pagination. This is just as an FYI, but this
usually isn't a problem, although sometimes, it can be, so just so you know.
Take care.

Robin:
As a validator you are not required to read the whole book. We are supposed
to check for copyright date, copyright holder, check to see if the author is
spelled correctly and is correct (usually is), check to see if their page
breaks (you can put them in if you want to), check to make certain that the
book is all there, and generally check a few pages to check on the quality
of the scan. (Have I missed anything fellow validators?) You can read the
whole book if you choose to, but it is not required, although I have found
as have others that the books can be improved quality wise (even if they are
almost perfect) by reading the whole book. That is about it.

As to your second question, sometimes scanners have had problems uploading
books because the site has a hiccup. What they do is cut down the tital to
a one or two word title just for the upload. Sure hope this helps you get
started. (Now, I bet someone else has already told you all this. Sorry if
they have and I am rehashing.)
