Hi Valerie,

I am using Word 2003. The thingy that you type into the find box for
a paragraph mark is ^p Here is how I handle the situation that you
describe, in case you like this solution. It may not be perfect, but it
gets rid of most unwanted paragraph marks.

In the find box type ^Pa
In the replace box type a (that is space followed by the lower case letter
a)
Check the box to preserve case sensitivity
Replace all.
If you do this with each lower case letter of the alphabet, you should get
rid of almost all unwanted paragraph marks.

I know it sounds like a big chore, but it really takes less than five
minutes.

One more that will be really obvious to you as a sighted person that is
simple inserts paragraph marks where OCR may have taken them out between
paragraphs of dialogue.

In the find box type " " (that is quotation mark space quotation mark)
In the replace box type "^p"
Replace all.

With this, if there is not a paragraph mark between lines of dialogue,
you'll get one.

The only instance in which this is a problem is if there are titles
represented in a list within a paragraph that are within quotation marks,
but they can easily be reunited when reading if this is the case.

Hope some of that helps.

Sorry if I have just wasted your time.

Mayrie

Thanks, Mayrie! What is the keystroke in find and replace for a carriage
return/paragraph mark? Or, do I just remind them one by one? Either is
fine; it is under 200 pages, and I can plunk away at it. I just wish there
were doubles to be sure I get true paragraphing right.

Have a great night!

Valerie
