Good evening:

Here in lies the problem. Although people complained about benetech's unresponsiveness to the issue, the fact is we can't agree on what to do, therefore we certainly send mixed messages.

In my opinion, that material should remain in the book.
For those of us who don't want it in the book, then the individual user can
strip out the headers and or page numbers if they so choose, in other words, customize it to their reading pleasure.
But for those of us who want the complete text, we can't put the page numbers properly back in once they're gone, we have no recourse.
You can take material out of a book, but once it is gone you can't manufacture it and put it back in short of having the print copy. And at that point, it would be faster to just rescan it yourself in some cases.

Honestly, I do not believe a stripper should be employed at bookshare. For one thing funding is tight, (i'm straying off-topic here)
Seriously though, i believe what a validater submits is what a reader should get, with no middleman processing, minus any conversions for brf and the like.

I realize i'll lose on that one, but I would at least like to retain the page #s.

Not to mention that without page numbers, there's no way of knowing how much
of a book is left to read.

for Monday Meeting

re the posts saying reading-for-pleasure readers
perhaps don't need page numbers. As a sighted reader,
I like need page numbers so that in case my bookmark
falls out, sort of know what page I was on. Earlier
posters have said that they use symbols like asterisks
or other marks, though, to indicate where they left
off in a book, so I suppose perhaps page numbers
aren't as important in novels -- except it students
are writing papers on the novel. But what to Braille
readers do if there are no page numbers and they want
to continue where they left off readig a book? And
people who listen? Can you "go to" a symbol to get
where you were?
