I don't mind stripping headers by hand when I'm
reading the book anyway, but I have found that I can
usually copy and replace all, which shortens the
amount of work involved, which, as you point out,
Mary, is a bit tedious. Usually the headers are messed
up anyway, so it takes several replacements. And
usually, if they're normal, they aren't the same font
as the title. One has to be careful, though, with
headers that are or mght be the same as the same words
or names, like the author's, that might appear
elsewhere.
