Okay, I just went to the view menu. I had never looked through that before
because I didn't know what it was. I did not find anything there labeled
text view, but I did find something labeled text window inactive. I pressed
enter and it went out of menues. I then went back to the view menu and looked
again and it still said text window inactive. Am I getting warm?

Hi Roger,

I think you'll find "text view" under the view menu when you open OpenBook.
When your cursor is on "text view" press enter. As long as "exact view" is
unchecked
and "text view" is checked, you shouldn't have all of the extra blank
lines.

In my settings there is a check box labeled "keep exact view." It is
unchecked. There is nothing there about text view.

Yes, Mayrie, you're correct. I use OpenBook 8 and have my view set to text
view.

Roger, changing your view to text view should correct the problem.

Hi Roger,

I thought Lori said to turn off "exact view" to get rid of the paragraph
symbols after each line.  As for end of line hyphens, I don't know.  I'm not
an
openbook user, but I thought I remembered Lori saying to turn off "exact
view" to get rid of extra paragraph marks.

I am getting the feeling that my Open Book 6.0 is really inferior. There is
no setting to get rid of end of line hyphens that I know of. Also, in the
comments
section for some books I scanned that were bounced back to step one, Carrie
has told me to change my OCR settings so that it will not insert a line
break
after every line, but I can find no setting that even mentions such a
thing.

Hi,

When people scan, they're supposed to set their OCR to get rid of
end of line hyphens.  There is generally a setting to get rid of those.

I wouldn't expect either of back seat or good looking to be hyphenated at
all.  Also, what is supposed to be done with line ending hyphens, since the
bookshare tools deal in paragraphs, not lines?
