They didn't corrupt. They followed some rule or other you didn't know you had set. If you are concerned, save the altered document to a new name with the new M dashes, open both the newly saved document and the original 2007 version in 2007 and compare the two documents. That way, if there are any other changes, you will be able to see them. It will take less time than re-reading the entire document. I'm sending a private email.
