I looked up the manual for your laptop, and the 3.5 mm nearest to memory
card slot (and nearest the back of the laptop) is a combo audio jack. The
other socket is for digital audio.
This is in the manual about the audio socket:
Combo audio jack Connects to headset. Notes: • The combo audio jack does
not support conventional microphones by default. • The recording function
may not be supported if third-party headphones or headsets are connected,
due to different industry standards
Having had another quick look on the net, some people get external
microphones to work with an adapter of the sort that I've previously
mentioned, but others don't. Here's an example thread:

Note that in that thread someone also recommends that if you're using a
mono microphone, to use a 3.5mm Stereo male to 3.5mm Mono female adapter
between your microphone and the microphone input of the adapter.
An alternative would be to buy a usb microphone.

Hi all
I have a stand alone Logiteq mic connected to the 3.5 mic-in jack on
my Lenovo laptop which doesn't appear to be picked up and recognized
by Audacity (my audacity doesn't for some or other reason have the
external mic as a possible input source).
When I go to preferences, and then devices, the only input device
listed is the laptop's internal mic.
What should I do to enable my stand alone Logiteq mic for recording?
Any help would really be appreciated.
