[audacity4blind] Re: HOW TO MAKE AUDACITY RECOGNISE AND PICK UP MY EXTERNAL MIC

But, should also have asked, if when audacity is launched, if you shift+ctrl+F6 once, or use ctrl+f6 twice, it should take you to the audacity transport tool, and, from landing spot shift + tab 3 times, you should land on the recording device drop-down box - there's also a keystroke to bring it up, but, can't remember it now - and, see what's offered in there?

Ok, Sameer, you might also need to go into your sound card settings, and on the recording page, see which devices are listed, and, see if you can change one of them to default there.

Like said, haven't gotten this sorted on my lenovo w52, but, that might still apply.

Just tried MS Sound Mapper with the external mic plugged in and still
not working unfortunately.

Sameer, have you tested which of them is output?

Ask since, in audacity, in the toolbar for selecting audio devices,
etc., chances are then that MS sound mapper device will map to the
external microphone socket, especially if it has something like a
microphone plugged in to it.

Hi David

My laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad y5070 which has 2 3.5 mm jacks.  I
assume 1 of them is for earphone / speaker out and the other for
mic-in.

Hi Sameer,
How many 3.5mm sockets does your laptop have?
Do you know the model of your laptop?
If the laptop has a single 3.5mm socket, then you'll probably need an
adapter such as the startech MUYHSMFF
to be able to plug in an external microphone which has a 3.5mm plug.

Hi all

I have a stand alone Logiteq mic connected to the 3.5 mic-in jack on
my Lenovo laptop which doesn't appear to be picked up and recognized
by Audacity (my audacity doesn't for some or other reason have the
external mic as a possible input source).

When I go to preferences, and then devices, the only input device
listed is the laptop's internal mic.

What should I do to enable my stand alone Logiteq mic for recording?

Any help would really be appreciated.

Kindest regards

Sameer
