My laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad y5070 which has 2 3.5 mm jacks. I
assume 1 of them is for earphone / speaker out and the other for
mic-in.

If the laptop has a single 3.5mm socket, then you'll probably need an
adapter such as the startech MUYHSMFF
to be able to plug in an external microphone which has a 3.5mm plug.
