Yeah, if you need really small valves they can't be OTS. If you can't
make a valve your stuck. A small rocket would not have fittings at all
it would need to be all welded. An automotive fuel injector is a type of
pilot valve, you would have to machine your own valves and wind your own
solenoids. I'd use a spool valve for the main.

But hey that would be more of a work of art and take a very long time to
make.

Goddard did work like that, I've seen some of it. Like a fine craftsman
of the time he was.

What a craftsman could do today is mind boggling.

That's what drove me to build a 250 lb engine even though I had a
working 100 lb engine. With reasonable effort, I could only miniaturize
valves, fittings, etc. so much and when I started adding up the empty
weights, the vehicle would have been too heavy for the 100 lb engine.
So far I'm in the box for the 250 lb engine - my dry mass spreadsheet
shows about 45 lb.

For small vehicles pumps make no sense to me... minimum gage on any
non eggshell tank and the system performance with pump is not any
better than system performance without...

Yeah, I remember checking out Micropump years ago - they had a
catalog model (a magnetically coupled centrifugal pump IIRC) that
looked like it might do exactly what I needed, at a price that
(once I got a quote out of them) turned out to be a large multiple
of my budget for that segment of the project.
