I purchase 'denatured' racing N2O in K bottles from a gas supplier. It
also has no smell and leaves no residue so I don't know if it is truly
denatured. My current price is $275 per K cylinder. I looked back at
receipts and in 2012 I was paying $140 per K cylinder.
I agree with David that impurities for amateur purposes don't matter.

We've done exactly that. Theoretically the stuff is adulterated so you
cannot inhale it, but it has no smell and leaves no residue.
The question, alas, is whether that experience generalizes to other N2O
suppliers. People's experience with denatured ethanol has been that the
composition is not standardized -- the type and quantity of denaturant
added varies -- and the same might be true of N2O.
