Torger is an accomplished software designer who has created a nice camera
profiling program. He discusses how to use the original Color Munki along
with Argyll tools and what a good patch size is for profiling. It's been my
experience that one can create very good profiles with relatively small
patch sets. You need to rule out whether the problems you are seeing are a
one off issue related to either the paper or user error. It's very easy to
get files mixed up and as Graeme noted, mis-reading of patches can lead to
very large errors.
I create a separate directory (Windows OS) for every paper I profile so that
I don't inadvertently enter the wrong 'ti2' file into the command line.
