yes, that's a perfectly reasonable approach too, but less flexible.
(chartread -e for doing that).
If the transparency could end up on more than one type of backlight, then
measuring transmission allows you to compute the profile for
many different backlights using just the spectrum of the backlight.
(i.e. exactly the same as reflection prints under different lighting).
