In that case...unfiltered incandescent, with all the obvious caveats about heat
management. You get a nice, smooth, straight, continuous spectrum. Provided
it's bright and hot enough to give you enough luminosity in the blue / violet
part of the spectrum, the math all works out very, very nicely. You don't have
to worry about metamerism effects from spikes, you don't have noise from
spectral gaps, and so on.
It's very easy to accurately translate from a continuous spectrum to a spiky
one. The other direction...not so much. It can be done, of course...but with
noise, rounding errors, and so on.
