You might want to have a computer shop run some stress tests or diagnostics
on your system if possible. A bad stick of memory or overheating could cause
some of the issues you mention. The problem with a scenario like this of
course is that the cause could be almost anything from corrupted files in the
OS to a failing hard drive. Your system is way above the requirements for the
Real Speak voices, so I don't think that is the problem. Adding a separate
video and sound card certainly couldn't hurt, but before going to all that
expense I would revert the system to factory settings and reinstall all
adaptive software first, then if the problem returns have those system
diagnostics run to see if there could be a hardware issue.

Scott, The video card is one of those internal ones on themother board.. it
is an internal audio/video card but not sure what kind, I know about
Soundblaster, but not sure what this one is.. Would have to find that out from
HP I guess.. Thanks, Pat

It's most likely not a problem with the voice files themselvews. Remember
you have 4 processors and tons of memory so there's not much DSP wise that your
computer can't do.

Likely you have some of your video settings set incorrectly or JFW doesn't
exactly like the video card you're using. Try FS they might have some good
pointers.

Thanks, I think I will ask FS about the larger files in Real Speak that
someone told me about and ask if that is causing the problem.. I definitely
will not trade in this computer, I will just put Eloquence back on if that is
speech and it's files that are causing it.

Why not get rid of real speak that comes with Jaws? If you
lose speech then you might have to take back your computer trade it
for a different one.

Hi All, Recently I purchased a new computer, with Vista Home Premium
on it and am running Jaws version 10 with Real Speak instead of Eloquence
because I like the sound of it better than Eloquence but was told it had larger
files than Eloquence does. My computer is a HP with 4 quad core AMD processors
2.4 gigsbytes a piece. I am using Windows mail which has to have Windows
Messenger installed to run this mail which comes iwith Vista so thoughtI'd try
using it since it is similar to Outlook Express which I have used before. What
it is doing is losing speech sometimes in Windows mail. It is set to do Windows
automatic updates and this morning instead of it sitting on the start menu
telling me to press windows key and M to go to the desktop it was totally shut
down on it's own this morning when I first sat down to the computer, I assumed
it had done an automatic update since it is set to do them every day at 3 a.m.
Also Windows Live 1 Care is set to do it's own updates around 6 a.m. every
day.. Usually though it will restart itself, not totally shut down and turn
itself off, I hve never had to happen before this morning. Also Messenger keeps
popping up with a reminder messenge that it is running in the background, can't
seem to ge tit to stay on the sys tray.. I even called HP tech support and they
told me I might have to buy Microsoft OUtlook and take Messenger off and
uninstall Windows Mail and go to using Microsoft OUtlook.. I have used it
before and it is alright, I used it before I got this computer, in fact.. I
can't imagine why I keep losing speech in Windows mail or at the time when I am
trying to close out Windows mail to put it on restart myself for some reason..
Sometimes when the messenger reminder messenge comes on, it losses speech
there. Also in a website with a combo box, I pressed alt down arrow and it said
open list, but when I down arrowed to choose what I wanted to chooseon the list
there was no sound, and I lost speech again.. I wonder what is going on? I
wonder if the larger files of Relal Speak could be causing this? Could you
advise , if any of you have used Jaws 10 with REal Speak and have a HP computer
that is using Vista HOme Premium, I don't know if the 4 processors make a
differenceor not as far as losing speech with Jaws but got this computer with
the 4 processors and the rest of the package because it was such a good deal
price wise and it was recommended to me as being a great buy by someone who had
worked as a system engineer and who also has had a little experience with
Jaws.. Thank you so much for your heop in advance, any help will be appreciated
with these problems.. Pat Dallas
