Hi Andy

On O2 Pay-As-You-Go, you call 4444 and are advised of your credit balance and remaining text allowance if you have one. On Ian's contract, he couldn't do it in that way. He had to call O2 Customer Services by ringing 202 and asking them for the latest information on his balance in person. It drove him mad because it often took ages to get through, and he couldn't ring them at certain times. I did ask why they couldn't provide an automated service, and they told me it was something they were thinking about as other people had asked for it too.

Ian uses so many texts that it concerned me he was going over his allowance and starting to run up a bill that he couldn't always check on demand, so he decided to return his mobile number to the top-up service which, in fact, works out better for people like him who text a lot.

On one occasion, he wanted to change his billing date to coincide with when he got paid, and they made a real mess of it which I had to sort out. They did apologise, and said it was their fault for the administrative error they made, but we decided between us that it would be better for Ian to go back to top-up, which he is happier with, and is able to manage himself as he pays for what he uses.

It might be that you'll be fine if you opt for O2, and that Ian's was an unfortunate situation that you won't experience.

Good luck.

Jackie

Jackie - thanks for sharing this experience.

When you said your son couldn't easily phone a free number to find out how
many mins etc he had left, is this to say that they don't provide this kind
of service? -

| Hi Andy
|
| My son took out one of the O2 30-day opt-out contracts last year, but
didn't
| like it and returned to O2 Pay-As-You-Go. With the contract, he could
have
| 500 free texts per month and 600 free minutes. But they messed up his
| billing date, which I had to sort out as I was the account holder since he
| is still under 18. Then he couldn't easily phone a free number to find
out
| how many texts or minutes he had remaining as he could do with his top-up
| service. He got so fed up, and frankly so did I, that he terminated the
| contract and went back to what he had before with the same company.
|
| I'm not alone in saying O2 aren't the most helpful in-store network
either,
| which always counts for a lot with me when people are assistive and
| friendly.
|
| You might have better luck though, but I personally don't like O2 Customer
| Services. Sorry to sound negative, but they aren't my favourite network
by
| a long way.
|
