Of course you can upgrade the OS.  In fact you can do it over the air and
without sight.

Yes thanks for that, I did a little googleing around and found this out. 
seems bad that you can't upgrade the OS or have I got this wrong. and 
Steve you can upgrade the OS on the Iphone platform.
