Jackie,

Did you install the driver first - BEFORE you plug in the scanner?
That's becoming the norm these days with a lot of equipment. Indeed
the good manufacturers put a warning wrapper round the USB PC end of
the cable to warn you.

George.

Hi George

Have no fear, I won't be investing in a later version of Office just
yet, I prefer the copy I'm using at the moment.

With the scanner, I just get a message that the driver could not be
installed successfully, and tells me to wait for the Add New Hardware
message to come up. The trouble is it doesn't come up. In the Device
Manager, it just shows an unknown USB 2 device, not the name of the
Plustek Opticbook 3600. I've tried pointing the browse to the
Opticbook 3600 folder, but it still won't install, and brings up the
close button. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I tried
everything I could yesterday and ended up having to go for a long
sleep because I overloaded my brain!

Hi Jackie,

What messages are you getting when trying to install the Plustek?

For Microsoft Security Essentials, just select the download from
http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security_essentials/default.aspx and go
from there. One installer covers both and it will sense your system
configuration.

And no problems installing Office 2003 - I've got it working on
various 64 bit systems - even with Office 2010.

Just a word of warning though. If you even want to install the 64 bit
version of Office 2007 or 2010, you can't have it with 32 bit 2003,
although the 32 bit versions will work o.k.

George.

Subject: [access-uk] Calling all Windows 7 64 bit users

Apologies for the cross-posting, but I could do with some help please
from anybody not subscribed to both these lists who knows a thing or
two about Windows 7 64 bit.

I have now just taken the plunge and bought a new PC with Windows 7 64
bit on it. I also decided to purchase the Plustek Opticbook 3600
scanner, but can I install it? Can I hell! I have tried everything I
can think of, but it doesn't seem to want to play ball, so my first
question is to ask if anyone else has successfully done this and, if
so, what steps did they take to achieve it.

Turning next to antivirus, I understand Microsoft Security Essentials
is a good free utility, but I have spent hours literally trying to
find the appropriate link to download the 64 bit version,
unsuccessfully. This really hasn't been my day I can assure you.
Could anyone please provide a direct link so that I might get this
installed before I tear out what little hair I have anyway?

Finally, before I spend tomorrow faffing about and being unsuccessful
again, can I install my Office 2003 Professional software? Yes I
realise I should upgrade, but I don't feel like it at the moment, so
will it work with 64 bit

And if there are any more nasty surprises left in store, please
enlighten me now! (smile).

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns
