Hi Derek,

Yes, unfortunate wording. I don't think it is ever deliberate, but it sure
happens.

All the best

Hi Steve
You actually said:
"I have seen people who decide to spill coke
into their Braille cells."

I think Ian was looking at the word
“Decided”
so “Decided” to spill!#

But I think you were meaning people
make the decision to take a risk, by
drinking, eating, while using the Braille display.

Like Jackie, and yourself, I don't take that kind or risk.

Derek

Hi Ian,#

At no point did I say it was deliberate, but you can bet that some
people
eat or drink by their Braille displays and spillage will happen.

All the best

Hi Steve, I’d be interested to know of any cases where someone has
actually
and actively “Decided” to spill coka cola on their display. On the
contrary I’d imagine that a Braille display owned by a sight impaired
user
might be more prone to accidental damage by unintentional drink
spillage, in
which case I’d have thought that any warrantee should be prepared to
cover
such an eventuality. After all, excluding the cells is a bit like
Nisan
saying the warrantee covers everything except the engine. When I
recently
found some pins on my HIMS display were stuck and wouldn’t go down, I
was
surprised to learn that this wasn’t something that would be normally
covered
by the warrantee, however I’m glad to say that the UK supplier
honoured the
terms in my case.

It depends on what you mean. I have seen people who decide to spill

personally
don't think so.

In my view, there should be no question, a 12 month guarantee is
a 12 month guarantee, no quibbles at all!

There definitely is a concern if they are going to query
replacing any cells
when a product is still under warranty. What is a guarantee for
if it
doesn't cover one of the most fundamental components? I am happy
with the
outcome, but it is something to bear in mind quite clearly.

It sounds like there's a quality issue that Hims need to address
as a matter
of urgency. Certainly this would put me off buying their braille
displays
etc., Pity because in other most respects they far outshine the
competition
for variability of choice within their note-takers.

Kind regards,

Paul

Subject: [access-uk] Braille display query on Hims products

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who
contacted me off
list recently regarding the quality of Braille cells on their
Hims products.
I had become aware that several dots on my U2 Mini, which is
approximately
nine months old, were beginning to fade. It seemed random
because they were
better on some occasions and less so on others. I wanted to know
if others
were having an issue with their units, and I found comments very
helpful.

I am happy to report that my machine is now back with me, having
been away
for a month. The Braille display has been replaced on my U2
Mini, and is
now functioning perfectly again.

I do have concerns about the quality of Braille Cells Hims appear
to be
using, and the stance they seem to adopt regarding any
replacement under
warranty. Nevertheless, everything has been resolved to my
satisfaction, so
thanks indeed to everyone who contacted me with their views and
kind words
of support.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Brown
