No, they have not removed this step. I had to do the same when I renewed my subscription, like you, I entered my e-mail address and was told that I don't have online account and was asked to provide password ETC., but was able to log on immediately without any problems.

Sorry Vanja, I should have been more specific. When I had to renew in
November of last year I discovered that after the Select payment
method screen they had added a "Check if you have a Symantec On
line account" stage. If I remember correctly I had to type in my e-mail
address and when it found that I did not have an account it asked me to
fill in a form and set a password. This done I expected no further
problems. But it refused to let me in with the password etc. In the end
I discovered that it was apparently necessary to allow some time for
the symantec servers to be updated, and next day I completed the
payment.

from your description they appear to have removed this extra step. I
hope so, as I have recently changed my e-mailaddress and that could
cause further complications.

I never had problems with renewing my subscriptions either, in fact, I had
to do it about a week ago, one night while I was working away at my
computer a message from Norton popped up telling me that my subscription
will expire soon and therewas a button to renew it, when I pressed enter
on the button it took me to a page, which already had the details of my
product and when it expires. On this page I had 2 options, to renew or to
buy a newer version, so it was all pritty easy, once I chose the option
went to next stage, ended creditcard details and thing was automaticly
renewed. Vanja MSN messenger: sudar23@xxxxxxxxxxx AIM: vanja121
