Hi Derek

Apple is probably already well aware that this will be an issue or an
unwelcome change for some customers.  Rumours are that Apple wants to ditch
the headphone socket because it will enable them to produce thinner phones.
We will know next month if all the conjecture is true, and what using the
Lightning port for headphones will entail.

I personally would like to see the 3.5mm socket retained, and can't see that
taking it away is going to make much odds to the depth of the handset.  It
is bound to cause problems for people with a hearing impairment, but perhaps
Apple has covered this in some way.  We'll know soon enough! I also don't
think those in favour of keeping it are going over-the-top either.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Brown

Ian  says

"if the removal of the 3.5 jack socket really does end up presenting access
obstacles to hearing impaired people then I imagine that Apple would welcome
the feedback."

It will depend on how many customers send in negative feedback.

When  I complained about bank statements in braille, RNIB clearly supported
the bank  and NOT the customer.
