Though there is not a getting started book as such, there is a tutorial which launches the first time talkback is started. Maybe not perfect, but it can certainly give you a good overview of basic gestures and navigation possibilitties.

I would like to look at the Moto G, but as I'm so used to an iPhone, I'm unsure as to how I get started. Especially, when using applications like Facebook, twitter, email, the web, and other areas.

It is worthwhile gathering as much info about the various devices.Mention was made of the Galaxy S3 Mini: It does not seem to accept an otg adapter and so cannot be used with a usb keyboard. Connected to an Amazon Basics bluetooth keyboard it also seems not to function either. Is android accessibilitty perfect? Sure is not. Should be a better/faster way to turn on access? Sure there should be. The 2finger double tap works when setting up a new phone. Not sure what device you used and the speach kept cutting out or didn't read what you wanted it to. With android you have a choice of devices and though some might workbetter than others and one might need to be careful which to choose, that'scertainly not a reason for android to not be considered as an option for ablind person. I think rather than bashing android, more needs to be done to help people make having an informed decision and help people choose a rightandroid device. -----Original Message----- From: Saqib Sent: Saturday, November 23, 2013 9:20 AM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: The Moto G I'm not really convinced with that mehtod of turning accessibility on. I tried a friend/s Samsung S3 Mini from the setup screen and it didn't do anything. I tried to get my daughter to turn Talkback on her S3 Mini and kept on getting a error message about setting the right language when thephone was purchased here in the UK. This is why people just don't trust the Android OS because it doesn't do what it says on the tin I'm afraid. Anotherexample is when I bought a tablet and Talk back would read what I was touching and then it would cut out and read nothing. I mean how bloodyshabby is that. I'm honestly trying to give Android the benefit of doubt putthese incidents don't help a jot. Large propotion of people turn to IOS because it's trusted and Voiceover is well polished. Another words it doeswhat it says on the tin. I would love to promote Android as well as IOS buthow can I recommend something that just never works as it should! On 22 Nov 2013, at 11:04, "Steve Nutt" <steve@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Hi Mo, Turn it on, wait for about 20 seconds, then put two fingers on the screen slightly apart. Steve, how do you launch the accessible setup on this handset? it would be fantastic if we can have full access to the device out of the box. all the best, Mo.On 22/11/2013 08:53, Steve Nutt wrote: Richard, The Moto G is already available in Phones4U at 119.00 with a 10 pounds top up or 135 pounds Sim-Free. We will hopefully be selling it from December, price to be announced, thoughnot quite that cheap. It will be sub-200 pounds though. This is a very worthy phone for the price, has 4.3 out of the box and will have 4.4 Kitkat on it by January 2014. I am told by Someone who already owns it that it is accessible even to the point of setting it up with no sight, so Motorola haven't skinned it that much either. It is almost a pure Google phone. It is not 4G compatible, though for the price, this is to be expected. Well worth a look. And the word is it will retail in the UK for £135, a fraction of the cost of an iPhone. I have no idea of how good the phone is though, but will be listening closely before upgrading from my iPhone 4s next year. ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq To report this e-mail as Spam, please forward it to: spam@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx --November is Switch on to technology month at RNIB!
