About a month ago I had a serious problem with my PC mostly my own fault.
I was using Norton's Systemworks 2003 and I let my update subscription run
out. Thought I'd save a few bucks and downloaded a free antivirus. (Big
Mistake).
I nearly lost everything on my hard drive. After several attempts to repair
my Windows XP Pro installation I finally got it back to near normal.
I then bought Norton's Systemworks 2005 ($70) thinking it would cost me $10
after 2 $30 rebates. Norton disallowed the one of them because they said I
needed to send them the manual's front page. I sent them the orig. disk as
required.
Live & learn.
After installing NortonSystemworks2005 and scanning all PC was better but I
noticed my modem icon constantly blinking when I wasn't using it. Aah yes,
SPYWARE !!
That's when I got Spysweeper & scanned all. (Found a $10 coupon for final
cost of $19.95 with a 30 day trial).
It found allot of spyware that Norton didn't and no more modem blink.
All is OK now.
Sorry, this is a little drawn out, but I thought it might help since we're
on the subject.

If Norton is so good, why does it have such a terrible rating (among
actual users) at download.com? Check it out: 35% approval for Norton
Internet Security 2005 (35 votes). Norton Antivirus 2005, about the
same (80 votes).

I would feel like a fool to use this. Ad-aware is rated 89% and there
are other free programs which work far better than Norton. Sorry guys,
I'm just reporting what I see.

Yeh, Norton probably works great for a few. But there are far too many
complaints.
