Very true! I dumped Norton 6 months ago. Long  boot ups, internet 
lockup, and ocassional crashes were all attribitable to it.
Presently, we use a linux based hardware  firewall  backed up by 
zone-alarm on the PCs
as well as AVG. No more bizzare behavior since.
We also periodically run ad-aware and spybot s&d just for good measure.
