Most of the ballasts that we have seen that were bad were on Sharp
projectors.  They would cause the lamp to fail early or, as Damon said, not
fire at all.  Too bad most of the parts are not available on those.  They
would not be very hard to repair.  I know I could use some better
troubleshooting and testing techniques for them.  What are the rest of you
doing?  If we had a good procedure for testing the ballast, this is one
service that we could offer to discourage customers from changing the lamps
themselves.  A ballasts test, cleaning, and calibration with each lamp
change could be a good service package to offer.
