Marc, Hewes reels are expensive relative to "cheap Japanese reels." But, I agree about being able to bounce a Pro Hewes reel on the floor without it bending. Freestyle Photo and B&H both carry the Pro Hewes reels but Freestyle has them for quite a bit less money.... The 120 reel is $23.99 at Freestyle and $35.95 at B&H. You'll have to buy a roll of film to hit Freestyle's $25 minimum order limit.
