Aren't the gel or thin polyester filters sometimes used inside the view camera behind the lens?

The thin polyester filters, e.g., work very well for occasional use, but I found that they got marred fairly easily in the field. I'd recommend getting a set of good glass filters for your largest lens and then some good step of adapters, at least if you're going to get a bunch of filters. For filters, I like the Hoya Super Multicoated filters or plain multicoated filters. What's available depends on what type of filter you need. Personally, I rarely use filters. Occasionally, I use a yellow/green or a polarizer filter.
