I suggest that you not equate unsharp masking techniques with the sharpness "quality" of image that a point-source enlarger provides.
I might be tempted to ask that you consider the difference one might observe, by comparing two negative/print of the same scene... one developed in high sulphite (solvent) developer to the other developed in a high accutance developer.
The resulting prints are disimilar and differences in "sharpness" are difficult to describe, but can be observed. With a point-source enlarger the edges of every "grain" are both sharp and readily observed.
