The main source of metal impurities would be the sodium sulfite itself
rather than the water used to make the solution.  Iron and copper are
the metals usually implicated in the oxidation.

A well stoppered bottle to keep the oxygen from the solution is probably
the best solution.  =20

This makes perfect sense.  It is an indirect but effective anti-oxidant.
Wonder if I should add EDTA to my saturated sulfite solutions?  I really
doubt it as I use carefully distilled water that should have no metal
ions.
