thanks Don response under each para - cheers ted ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don" <dsw32952@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: = can't save [xphomes2] Date: Tue, 13 Dec 2005 11:36:26 -0500 Assumptions: 1. You are using XP with ALL updates correct 2. You are using the latest and greatest versions of MS Word, Wordpad and Notepad with ALL updates and patches applied. correct 3. When you click FILE>SAVE AS it works normally. no, save and save as - same symptoms 4. The problem exists in other MS OFFICE or WORKS Suite software such as Excel, Powerpoint, Access etc but NOT in non-MS software(such as Open Office or Word Perfect office suites). of these, i have only works, wordpad and notepad 5. The problem is limited to traditional MS OFFICE type data files (doc, txt, ppt etc) and NOT to other file types such as JPG, MP3, BMP, GIF, AVI etc). just tried saving in OE6; the new msge i was working on and another partialy done and minimised both disappeared i.e. the 'windows' no longer exist as 'work in progress', and had to be worked all over again. 'send' works ok, and the msge goes to 'sent' folder. also, in IE6, clicking the d/l 'open/save' save-option, brings up the 'save as' box 'greyed-out' and therefore, not responsive. 6. The file being saved may be new or an existing file opened for editing, large or small, with or without special formatting and with or without inserted graphics, photos, tables, charts etc. and the problem still exists. yes 7. You have closed all files and software and rebooted the computer and the problem still exists. yes 8. The problem exists ONLY with files created on the computer where the problem exists. any 'save' or 'save as' on this computer produces the same symptoms. [see 5] 9. The problem does NOT exist when the file is tested on a different computer (assuming a copy of the file is available). i think i can safely say that the problem is general to this laptop and not restricted to one specific file. Please clarify if any of these assumptions are wrong. Also please clarify what this means: "Straight after, the job I'm working on disappears". see 5 Don ----- Original Message ----- From: "ted" <ted.clark@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2005 3:52 AM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: = can't save [xphomes2] > hi gang, > I've got a good one here!! > when I click file/save, in word, the pop-up flashes for less > than a second then disappears; > in WordPad and notepad I don't even get to see it.
