Also look into another very good one by Adobe called Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0. Its free for personal use. And, the premium version of this, wit more features, is Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0. That one, of course, is not free. I have a few suggestion....for organizing your photos. I would recommend Paint Shot Photo Album from Corel/Jasc or a similar program. The regular version comes free with PSP 9. I just got the deluxe version free at Fry's last weekend (after rebates!) No I am not going to tell you about all my bargains..except maybe the 300 GB drive I got ... 16 MB cache... and a FIVE year warranty - A Seagate...drive......for $70 after rebates! (The rebates are all in the mail already!) You can use this for any photo or jpgs you have. The first steps are not all that sexy and seem sort of boring. Heck they are...unless you are into databases..which I am....lol! Take a few minutes.. and write down broad general categories of pictures for example... Baby pictures School Pictures Vacations Cars Holidays One for each generation in your family And keep going. Now, you can create sub categories...such as Halloween - Easter.... under holidays Great Grandparents Great Great Aunts and Uncles Grand Parents Great Aunts and Uncles Parents Aunts/Uncles Siblings My Family (immediate - hubby - kids) In-laws (and out-laws too!) Vacations - In the country..... Hawaii.......... Florida........ Aunty Emm's This is the tip of the iceberg Now in the Program... create those categories..... once you have those basic categories.... open a file folder of pictures As you open a folder...... think about the picture and the categories..... Say it is a pic of your Aunty Emm that summer with all the big storms and you were at her house in Kansas Putting the picture in a category simply means putting a check mark (clicking) on the category name. Very simple..takes a second! As you go through your photos.. you will get very fast at this. Back to the pic if Aunty Emm.....that summer............................ Now...what category should that go to? I would put it in aunts and uncles and in vacations. I think I would create a Kansas or something similar category. Only you have a clue as to what photographs you have..and you may be surprised as you go through them... of how they relate to one another. If you know you took first tooth pics of all 12 of your kids..then make a category. Just remember..keep an open mind..and photos can easily go into more than one category. I do the same with my graphics files. I put snowmen with Christmas decorations in my Christmas graphics file under snowmen. I put plain snowmen in my Winder - Cold folder and I put the Christmas ones there too! I do the same with tubes. When it comes to Scrapbooking..I handle that differently. I put them in Alpha order..each kit/set in its own folder... with the Designer's Name - the name of the Kit - (if it is an alpha or template or quick page I note that) - If it is a freebie , I know that..... Yes I have long file names..but things are soooo easy to find! No, I do not put my graphics and tubes and Scrapbooking supplies in a photo album, but I use the same file structure. When there is any doubt..I look at the object and ask myself....."If I were looking for this pictures, where would I look?" And sometimes it goes in a couple of folders! I would rather have a picture 3 times..than not be able to find. Maybe I can't find it because the day I did it I was in a hurry. Now I am wasting my time searching for it. There is the old maxim, Haste makes waste!...Like how I snuck that one in...hahaha! Anyway, they are your records, photos..you decided what works for you..this works for me..... I hope this helps a little. Hugs, Rose I would start with Photos first. When you open the program you can navigate to a folder and see each picture in the folder. (Of course if there are more pictures than will fit on a screen you have to keep scrolling) Once you have opened the folder and see the pictures, you can then ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judith Tramayne" <jtb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, December 01, 2005 6:59 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: backup pictures? Picasa 2 allows you to sort by recent changes: View, Sort Folder List By Recent Changes or you could use Tools, Backup pictures and you can tell it which drive and it says it remembers what you've backed up so won't back them up again. If I could figure out some way to put just one date(the backup date) on all of them at once I might go for it.
