How "good" of a system you're looking into?

  Ok !!
I'm lining everybody up to tell me what to buy and where to buy it and how to
  build one!!

The guy trying to talk me into it did say that the hardest thing is (and most
  expensive) getting the
software and getting it on and running.

I find this to be true if you are not looking for anything spectacular from
the spec, but it's still a lot cheaper to put together a higher specced
machine yourself AND you get to choose the components that suit you, not the
  maker.

As for the difficulty in doing it yourself? Speaking as someone with hooves
for hands, it's one of the easiest 'technical' things you can do. If you can
use a screwdriver, you can do it.
