 I have a friend trying to talk me into building my own computer. 
I laughed at him!!! 
I really hope you get it going - I am envious of the knowlege 
to be able to do this!

   Did your motherboard come with a manual?  Check what processor speed it 
will take and also what RAM chip speed it will take.
   Also, try with just one RAM chip in Bank 0.
Have fun!  I just went through a week of misery on a mere upgrade.
