have you done it then? If both folders are shared then you should be able to move the files from either machine. If only one folder is shared, you can only copy to that machine with the non shared folder, if that makes sense. So if you want to move files from machine A to B, you need the folders on A to be shared, and B does not have to be, but then you can only move the files from A to B from computer B Trevnal ----- Original Message ----- I wasn't trying to share twice, just trying to copy one folder from one pc to another. Thanks for your help, I was making the folder it was coming from shared, but obviuosly I should have made the folder it was going TO shared as well. Regards. Doug. CBPR@xxxxxxxxxx ----- Original Message ----- why do you need to try and share it twice? As long as you share it, you can then copy it over to the other machine. Or you can make a folder on the machine you are copying to, and make that read and write, IE full access, and then copy from the ME machine to it. Trevnal ----- Original Message ----- Trev, Maybe I'm doing something wrong then, (I'm on win me). On pc 1 I r/click on the folder that I want to back up to pc 2, I then click on sharing, then click on shared as, then click on full. Then when I try to do it again, I get : 'unable to create the folder, access denied' Any help much appreciated. Doug. CBPR@xxxxxxxxxx ----- Original Message ----- Doug Any folder you wish to give permission to change is quite easy. I am using XP, and all you do is open Windows Explorer or my Computer, and navigate to the folder you want to use. right click the folder, and select Sharing, next you chose to share the folder, and also you then can tick another box to allow network users to change folder contents. W2K and W98 should be very similar I think, but not used them for ages to check, sorry. Hope that helps you out, Trevnal ----- Original Message ----- Sorry Trev, I'm a newbie to this, can you explain how I can give the folder the permission please. Doug. CBPR@xxxxxxxxxx ----- Original Message ----- I really need more information on how you are trying to do this. If you are copying the files onto the other computer, it could well be you have not given the shared folder the permission to be changed, there you can't write to it and then you would get an error something like that. Trevnal ----- Original Message ----- Hi all, Some of you may remember a little while ago, I networked 2 computers with the excellent help of some of you, in particular Trev. Now I have another prob, I'm trying to copy and paste some folders from pc 1 to pc 2, to do backups and I get the message: Unable to create the folder ***** access is denied. Any ideas what to do ?
