Although I've never experienced any data loss from defraging a drive,
how much space do the contents of D: occupy? If you burn the contents to a
CD/DVD, the resulting disk will not be fragmented and will give you the
peace of mind to go ahead and defrag that drive. You could also just make a
folder directly under the C drive and copy everything from D: into it. Once
the defrag is done and you're verified that everything is still there,
simply delete the folder.
