Sandi,
    Yes, DVD drives will also handle CDs without problems.  Most can even 
handle CD-R and CD-RW duties if you want to burn something to CD.

    It might help take away some of the mystery about playing inside a 
computer if I provide you with some images of what you'll see once inside. 
Every system has differences, depending on the components used, but they all 
go together pretty much the same.
