Sandi,
Since it went through several disks the first time, I'm inclined to
think that the cleaning did some obvious good. However, since you still got
the error before it could complete, I have to wonder if perhaps one of the
ends of the data cable has come loose or maybe has developed enough
oxidation to prevent good contact on at least one of the pins. If you're up
to opening up the tower, I suggest you pull and reseat both ends of the data
cable for the optical drive and try installing it one last time. If it
doesn't work, the drive is most likely going bad and should be replaced.

BTW, CompUSA might have some of their sales available online. By closing
their stores and converting to an online-only merchant, they definitely have
a need to seriously reduce their overall inventory. I'll also add that I
normally use PriceWatch.com when I'm looking for computer parts. Just be
sure to research both the devices AND the merchants before doing business
with one. If you're not sure or would like some guidance with this, just
give a yip. I have several parts dealers that I've come to trust as much as
one can trust a brick 'n mortar store and few of them can claim absolute
lowest prices. :O)

Oh, before I forget. That optical drive cleaner works great in
non-computer CD players, too.

Peace,
GMan
