My choice of laptop for the next 10 years (at least), to replace my
aging Sony with a P4 CPU was a Dell Vostro 1720 with 8 GB RAM and
whatever the top of the range Intel core Duo processor was. 500 GB of
disc went down well as well.

64 bit Windows 7 was installed, emphasis on was. Now running Linux
(OpenSuse 10.1 at the moment) with lots more in virtual environments.
I'm about to set up a RAC system (just for fun) under 11g for my own
benefit.

I ordered it from Dell's small business side of things. The bonus being
that there is no cr4pware installed. Other than Windows 7 of course! ;-)

Unfortunately, I neglected to pay attention when installing Linux and
installed the 32 bit version, sigh. I'll be upgrading that little
mistake at some point soon too.

All in all, I'm impressed. It's just a shame that almost as soon as I
bought it, they go and bring out the new i5 and i7 processors! Always
happens to me!

And it's "deep cherry red" too - nice. The cover's don't seen to scratch
either, but then, I take care of it!

Cheers,
Norman.
