Oh, so right- especially for us folks in the Rocky Mountains- The campground
I was at this weekend was *maybe* 20 miles west of Denver, CO and as soon as I
hit the first windy road in the mountains, I lost cellphone coverage. Alerts
to my cellphone from scripts and such became stable once I hit
Blackhawk/Central City area, (casino's- bookies would NOT allow bad coverage
there ya' know! :))
Up and down the front range of Colorado, cell phone coverage is pretty stable
for 3G, but once you go west into the mountains, you need a bit of a boost to
get much of anything...

3G??? There are places in the US where it's still impossible to get a
simple cell phone signal, never mind 3G.

My understanding is that 3G adoption here in North America has lagged
Europe a bit, but I've seen that feature in some laptops/netbooks over
here, as well as external 3G modems that plug into a USB port. The
major challenge is getting a reliable signal in rural and small-town
areas. That's why Kellyn's "wifi campground" use case is such a
bonus. :)
