The question that causes me to explode and jump through the roof is:
"You mean I can do SELECT without locking the table? But that's not 
PORTABLE!".

1. Emphasize this is a "shared" environment, not a "desktop"
environment, that they need to adopt a new mindset.
2. Don't explicitly lock ANYTHING. Leave locking to Oracle.
