You are describing a typical gateway device. I am hoping to see some 
innovation in this area at NAB, but it may still be a bit early.

It makes good sense to integrate tuners, storage, NICs and firewalls 
into a gateway device. If you do this right, all you need is an 
"Intranet" in the home and any device with a NIC, decoders and 
display can share content.
