Dale,

Here in Arizona I can receive the local Phoenix stations off the back end of
the fixed antenna and Tucson off the front. The desert terrain is flat with
scattered mountains.

From Phoenix, I can receive all the high powered DTV broadcasts from Tucson
without difficulty: considering the distance from Tucson which is about 100
miles distant, the typical signal margin is about 7dB above the minimum C/N of
15dB.

I have a coaxial cable run of about 100ft with no preamp: the backend reception
from the stations in Phoenix will easily overload any preamplification I have
tried. Interestingly, all of the Tucson analog NTSC reception is Grade 2 or so
and is difficult to watch. The DTV is clear with no noticable dropout: the 100
mile DTV reception is as good as the local.

I have noticed that with rain (and it has been heavy here of late) I lose three
of the Tucson stations due to attenuation: four of the Tucson station remain
despite the heavy rain.

Best regards,

Terry Harvey
