Hi Ray,

I have done this in Word but as I recall the 'booklet' function was part of
the printer driver, not in Word, so it may depend what your printer is and
what functions are available.

If I remember correctly, I made up the booklet with consecutive pages in
Word (inserting blank pages where they were required - after the title page,
for example). The printer driver then did all the work of putting the
correct pages opposite each other, two to each side so that when collated
and folded it became a properly paginated booklet.

My document was set up with A4 (equivalent to your Letter size) pages but
printed at 'half' size (it's actually rather greater than half - 1 over root
2, to be exact!) so that each A4 sheet had four pages on it (back and
front). The reduction in size was taken care of automatically but outside of
Word.

I do have to say that I did this in Word 2000. I now have Word 2003 and, on
looking at Help, I see that it appears to be possible from within Word.
Check your Help under the topics Create a Folded Booklet, Print a Folded
Booklet and so on. I don't know if this was a feature of 2002.

If you have to rearrange your pages manually, use a table (or tables) to
place two pages on one sheet. It helps to know that, in a booklet with a
multiple of 4 pages the page numbers on each side of the sheets always add
up to one more than the number of pages (e.g. 12 - 1, 2 - 11, 10 - 3 ... 6 -
7 for a 12-page booklet on three sheets.)

Hope this helps,

Andrew Kendon
